Digging a well in the middle of the city of Taiz arouses a state of astonishment and activists demand transparency from the Water Company

The local Taiz Water and Sewerage Company has started digging a well in the center of Taiz town, which has raised eyebrows.
Video and video recordings showed the beginning of the drilling process at the intersection of Jamal Street and Lower Tahrir Street, where the well driller is carrying out the drilling process in the presence of local officials.
On November 23, 2025, the Director of the Taiz Water Company sent a memorandum to the Director General of Al-Muzaffar District, requesting advice from anyone necessary to issue withdrawal notices to vendors in the square in front of the Tahrir Mall, with the aim of digging a well owned by the company in the center square within a week.
Activists fear the well could be contaminated by sewage, especially since the area contains sewer pipes coming from multiple directions, and if corrosion occurs in some pipes, any leaks will cause water pollution.
Environmental activists demanded that the company show some transparency and reveal the study according to which it was decided to dig the well, in addition to clarifying the extent of the precautions that have been taken and will be taken in the future to avoid contamination of the well, since it is located in an area where torrential rains accumulate during the rainy season.
